„IT TAKES GUTS TO LIKE WHAT I DO“

ego andaluz is a gay artist and printmaker from Zurich, Switzerland, creating homoerotic linocuts and screenprints that explore queer identity, masculinity, desire, and visibility. Born in Switzerland with Spanish and Portuguese roots, and influenced by Andalusian and Alentejan culture, his work is shaped by both Iberian identity and his academic background in sociology, with a particular interest in queer cultures, gender, stereotypes, and the social codes surrounding gay identity.

After years of working privately, he released his work publicly in 2025, a process he describes as a second coming out. His works have been shown in queer exhibitions and art spaces across Europe, including QUEER UNFRAMING — Art Beyond Straight Lines during Gallery Weekend Berlin, PRIVATE PARTY at Anggrek Agency Zurich, and ODD Kiosk Barcelona, among others. He has been featured in CRUISER, one of Europe’s leading gay magazines, which concluded its portrait with the words: “We leave with the feeling that there is much more to hear from this man. Not because he is loud or imposing — but because he is real.”

Working primarily with linocut and screenprint techniques, ego andaluz approaches printmaking as both image and physical act. Every cut in linoleum is irreversible: once carved, it cannot be undone. Every print is pulled by hand, without industrial production or automated processes. The resistance of the material — pressure, carving, repetition, imperfection — becomes part of the work itself, mirroring queer visibility: physical, persistent, and impossible to erase.

Shortly after publicly exhibiting his queer works, the window of his Zurich studio was vandalised. His response:
“This is exactly why I won’t stop.”

Contemporary queer art. All works are released as signed and numbered limited editions. Collected internationally.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is ego andaluz?

ego andaluz is a gay artist and printmaker with Spanish, Portuguese, and Swiss nationality, based in Zurich, Switzerland. He works from Atelier 147, creating homoerotic linocuts and screenprints in strictly limited editions. His work explores queer identity, masculinity, desire, and visibility. Behind it sits an academic background in sociology and years of thinking seriously about gay culture, gender, and identity.

What kind of art does ego andaluz make?

Homoerotic linocuts and screenprints, handmade and strictly limited. Once the limited prints are gone, they are gone. No reprints, no exceptions. Each work is hand-pulled, signed, and numbered by the artist. His subject is the gay male body. Not as provocation. As fact.

What is queer art and how does ego andaluz define it?

Queer art places LGBTQ+ experience, identity, and desire at the centre of the work. Not as a subcategory. As the whole point. For ego andaluz, queer art is specifically gay, specifically male, and specifically homoerotic. It exists to make visible what has historically been hidden or made to feel shameful. His prints do not ask for tolerance. They assert presence.

Why linocut and screenprint for homoerotic art?

Linocut because it does not forgive. Every cut is permanent, every mark made with the full weight of the hand. No corrections, no filters, no going back. Screenprint because it builds flesh from noise: thousands of tiny dots that become desire at a distance. Both techniques suit homoerotic subject matter for the same reason. They are raw, irreversible, and impossible to sanitise.

Has ego andaluz exhibited his work?

Yes. His work has been presented in queer exhibitions and art spaces across Europe, including QUEER UNFRAMING at Gallery Weekend Berlin, Private Party at Anggrek Agency Zurich, and ODD Kiosk Barcelona, among others. He has been featured in Cruiser, one of Europe’s leading gay magazines. When someone vandalised his Zurich studio window shortly after his first public exhibitions, he responded: “This is exactly why I won’t stop.”

Where can I buy gay art prints by ego andaluz?

Through the online shop at egoandaluz.com. All works are original handmade prints, homoerotic linocuts and screenprints, shipped internationally from Zurich, Switzerland. Each edition is strictly limited and sells out permanently once gone. No reprints, no exceptions.

WHERE IS EGO ANDALUZ FROM

Is ego andaluz a Swiss gay artist?

Yes. He was born in Switzerland and has worked in Zurich for years, from Atelier 147. The city is in the work whether he intends it or not. Its precision, its restraint, its particular seriousness about craft. He is a Swiss gay artist in the most literal sense: this is where he lives, where he creates queer art, and where the work goes out into the world.

Is ego andaluz a Spanish gay artist?

Yes. He holds Spanish nationality and was shaped by Andalusia, which is also where his name comes from. ego andaluz means I am Andalusian. His father is Spanish, and something in that inheritance shows up directly in the work. A certain shamelessness, a comfort with the body, an unwillingness to soften what should be left hard.

Is ego andaluz a Portuguese gay artist?

Yes. His mother is from Alentejo, and that side of him is present in the work too, though differently. Portugal gave him something harder to define than technique or subject matter. A melancholy that does not ask to be resolved. A romanticism that knows loss is part of desire. It shows up in the palette, in the quietness that sits underneath even the most explicit images. He holds Portuguese nationality.
